What does "Unknown" mean in the Change History?

If you're looking at the change history, there are a few reasons we may not know who made the change.

1. The BalancedComp System made a change

Example 1: Some processes are handled by the BalancedComp system. For example, a salary adjustment may have an effective date in the future. Each night our system looks for pending salary adjustments and if there is an effective date matching the current date, our system will activate the salary adjustment.

Example 2: When a company moves asset sizes, the system will automatically update the midpoint of all positions.

2. Some processes are inherently long and complex and the user id isn't always passed along

Example 1: When a user implements a budget, the system would go through all the employees and creates salary adjustments.

Example 2: When a user conducts an import, the system will make an enormous number of updates. Historically we have not tracked who conducted the import so we could not say who made the updates. This was changed in 2025 and moving forward we will show who made the change via an import.

The User Index contains a log of every time a user has logged in.

So if need to deep dive, you can compare when a change was made and look for admins who were logged in at that date and time.
